A Vision of the 3 Covenants: A Map for Evolving Consciousness

Dec 26, 2025

One of the most powerful insights I’ve been given to share is what I call the vision of the Three Covenants. It’s a framework that reveals not how God changes — but how our consciousness of the Divine evolves over time.

As I’ve said for years, we are not just studying ancient texts for information. We’re confronting the very beliefs that have shaped how we see ourselves, the Divine, and our place in the cosmos. These covenants represent states of consciousness, not just historical contracts between God and humanity.

Let’s explore each one.

1st Covenant: “God IS” — The Old Testament Consciousness

Archetype: The Old Man in the Sky
Operating System: LAW
Message: Obey or be punished.

This is the earliest stage of spiritual consciousness — where God is understood as separate, distant, and authoritative. This is the God of thunder on Mount Sinai, of rules, commandments, and rituals. He is "up there" while we are "down here."

In this covenant, people related to God as a remote judge. They needed intermediaries — priests, prophets, temples — to access or appease the Divine. Religion became centered on behavior modification, fear of punishment, and reward for obedience.

It’s not wrong — it’s simply a stage. But to stay here is to remain in spiritual childhood, trapped in separation.

2nd Covenant: “God IN Me” — The New Testament Consciousness

Archetype: Jesus as the Indwelling Christ
Operating System: GRACE
Message: Relationship replaces rules.

Jesus changed the conversation. No longer was God only above or outside us — now God was within. The veil was torn, and the sacred moved from the temple to the human heart.

As Jesus said in Luke 17:21, "The kingdom of God is within you." And in John 10:30, "I and my Father are one."

This covenant shifted us from a transactional to a relational experience of God. It introduced the idea that we are sons and daughters of God, indwelt by Spirit, and guided from within.

Yet even here, many still hold onto a subtle form of separation: God may be in me, but I am still "not God." Grace is received, but not yet fully embodied.

3rd Covenant: “God AS Me” — The New Covenant Consciousness

Archetype: Christ Consciousness Embodied
Operating System: ONENESS
Message: There is no separation.

This is the most radical — and liberating — realization. It’s the shift from God being in you to God being as you.

This is not about ego inflation. It’s about ego dissolution. It’s the moment when you realize you are not a wave separate from the ocean — you are the ocean in wave form.

This is where the mystics have always lived. This is Gnostic awareness. This is where the Christ isn’t just something to believe in, but to become. Not as a personality, but as a state of consciousness — the remembrance of union.

As Paul said, “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” That’s not metaphor — that’s spiritual reality.

The Evolution of Identity Through the Covenants

Here’s a simplified breakdown of how our spiritual identity shifts across these three covenants:

First Covenant – God IS

  • God is seen as distant, external.

  • I am a servant or sinner.

  • My life is governed by law, rules, and fear of punishment.

Second Covenant – God IN Me

  • God is personal, living within.

  • I am a child of God.

  • I am learning to live by grace, forgiveness, and inner guidance.

Third Covenant – God AS Me

  • God and I are not separate.

  • I am a divine expression of the Source.

  • I live in union, embodying love, wisdom, and power as my true nature.

Why This Matters

These Three Covenants are more than theological concepts. They are a map for spiritual awakening.

They challenge us to:

  • Step out of inherited fear-based religious systems.

  • Reclaim the indwelling Christ — not just in theory, but in practice.

  • Stop looking for God “out there” and realize we’ve never been apart.

The Third Covenant is not a belief — it’s a state of being. It is awakening to the truth that God is not just within you — God is expressing AS you.

This is where true peace lives. This is where the spiritual journey leads. And this is the invitation that still echoes through every spiritual tradition:

“You are the light of the world.”
“You are the temple of the Holy Spirit.”
“Be still and know — I AM.”

So I ask you:
Where are you in this covenant journey?
And are you willing to walk the path all the way home?

In sacred Oneness,
David
